(Hamilton, Bermuda—November 20, 2025) Former Timber Clyde Best will join filmmaker Dan Egan, footballer Ade Coker, actor Tony D. Head—who narrates the film—, and historian/NASL alumnus Patrick Horne today at Cambridge Beaches Resort & Spa Hotel in Bermuda to announce the March 25, 2026 world premiere of the film at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London.

Per a release from producer Dan Egan’s production group, “Transforming the Beautiful Game” celebrates Best, “the first black football superstar in the modern TV era in England, and a player whose legacy helped shape the trajectory of soccer in the U.S. both on and off the field.”

Timbers fans will remember Best from his 1977-81 seasons with the NASL club, where he scored 40 goals across 124 appearances in green and gold, indoors and out, leading the club in goals each of the 1978, 79 (tied with John Bain), and 80 NASL outdoor campaigns.

In 2023, Best returned to the Rose City where he was honored with an unveiling of a mural on the Providence Park concourse and recognized on the field at halftime of the Timbers’ 3-2 win over the visiting Colorado Rapids.

“At the heart of the documentary,” the press release reads, “is the moving relationship between Best and Clive Charles, a fellow West Ham player who would later become one of the most iconic coaches in U.S. history — leading the University of Portland to national prominence and helming the U.S. Men’s Olympic Team in 2000. The film revisits Easter Sunday 1972, when Best, Charles, and Ade Coker became the first Black trio to start an English First Division match — a moment of historic and cultural magnitude.”

Transforming the Beautiful Game also features exclusive interviews with Harry Redknapp, Kasey Keller, Les Ferdinand, Shaka Hislop, Ian Wright, and many others. “The documentary explores Best’s legacy not just in Bermuda, Britain and the U.S. — but across a broader global movement to bring inclusion and representation to the sport.”
