In a press call today, filmmaker Dan Egan was joined by Clyde Best, Ade Coker, Tony D. Head, Patrick Horne, and Randy Horton to announce the Portland dates for Transforming the Beautiful Game: The Clyde Best Story. The film will show at Portland’s Aladdin Theater on June 4 and 5, currently the only scheduled West Coast showings.

Per a previous release from producer Dan Egan’s production group, “Transforming the Beautiful Game” celebrates Best, “the first black football superstar in the modern TV era in England, and a player whose legacy helped shape the trajectory of soccer in the U.S. both on and off the field.”

Clyde Best played for the Timbers in the 1977-81 NASL seasons, where he scored 40 goals across 124 appearances in green and gold, indoors and out, leading the club in goals each of the 1978, 79 (tied with John Bain), and 80 NASL outdoor campaigns.

I previously shared information from the announcement of the film’s release this last November in Bermuda, and I will have much more about the film over the next couple of month’s leading up to the June showings.

Until then:

The world premiere of Transforming the Beautiful Game: The Clyde Best Story will be at Sadler’s Wells East, just blocks from West Ham’s London Stadium, March 25-28.

More on the Portland showings to come!
